第４回：DIALYTAN 4x bmj

「bmj」のメーカーコードは、Wetzlarに位置したM. Hensoldt & Söhne Optische Werkのものである。 このメーカーは、1896年にMoritz Carl HensoldtによりWetzlarにおいて光学機器メーカーとして創設されたが、現在はHensoldt AGとして防衛や航空宇宙分野における防護・監視用センサー技術等を主分野としている。 　Hensoldt Wetzlarが戦前に製造した4倍率の狩猟用照準眼鏡には、「ZIEL-DIALYT 4x」、「ZIELJAGD 4x」、 「DIALYTAN 4x」の３種が存在した。ZIEL-DIALYTは小口径銃用の軽量タイプ、ZIELJAGDは一般的な狩猟用、 DIALYTANは薄明下でも使用できる高性能な照準眼鏡とされていた。具体的な差異としては、ZIEL-DIALYTがレンズの 明るさを示すLichtstärke値が43で主鏡筒径が22mmであるのに対して、ZIELJAGDとDIALYTANの径は共に26.5mmであったが、 Lichtstärke値はZIELJAGDが57、DIALYTANが81であった。 　Manufacturer code“bmj”refers to M. Hensoldt & Söhne Optische Werk, located in Wetzlar. This manufacturer was founded in 1896 by Moritz Carl Hensoldt in Wetzlar as an optical equipment manufacturer. It now operates as Hensoldt AG, which focuses on surveillance sensor technologies for the defence and aerospace sectors. 　Hensoldt Wetzlar manufactured three types of 4x magnification hunting scopes before the war: the“ZIEL-DIALYT 4x”, the“ZIELJAGD 4x”, and the“DIALYTAN 4x”. ZIEL-DIALYT was a lightweight model for small-calibre firearms, ZIELJAGD was for general hunting use, and DIALYTAN was a high-performance scope usable even in twilight conditions. Specifically, the ZIEL-DIALYT featured a Lichtstärke (lens brightness) of 43 and a main tube diameter of 22mm, whereas both the ZIELJAGD and DIALYTAN had a diameter of 26.5mm, with the ZIELJAGD having a Lichtstärke of 57 and the DIALYTAN of 81.

第１回で述べたように、当時の軍文書にはZIEL-DIALYTとZIELJAGDの名称の記載があり、両者の民間製造品が軍用に転用された可能性はあるが、 軍の発注により新たに製造されたものはDIALYTANだけである。 　As mentioned in Part 1, military documents from that period contain references to the designations ZIEL-DIALYT and ZIELJAGD. While it is possible that civilian versions of both were repurposed for military use, the only model newly manufactured under the military contract was the DIALYTAN.

【エレベーション形状の変遷　Evolution of the Elevation】

民間型から軍用型へ、DIALYTANの形状の変化として、最たるものが焦点装置の有無であることは 他の照準眼鏡と同様である。それ以外のDIALYTANの特徴としては、エレベーションの形状の変化があげられる。 　戦前のものでは、エレベーションタワーの基部後端及び回転部が垂直であるが、戦時中に傾斜しているものに変更されている。 ただし、これは軍用型への変更と同時ではなく、初期の軍用型には垂直のものがみられる。 　DIALYTAN 4xは戦後も製造されているが、それらにおいては焦点装置が復活し、エレベーションタワーは、当初は戦時型部品の 名残か傾斜型基部がみられるが、後には基部のみ垂直に戻っている。言うまでもなく、距離目盛は刻まれていない。 　The most significant change in DIALYTAN's form from civilian to military variants, as with other scopes, is the presence or absence of a focusing device. Other features of DIALYTAN include changes in the shape of the elevation. 　In pre-war examples, the rear base and rotating section of the elevation tower were vertical, but during the war period these were modified to be slanted. However, this change did not occur simultaneously with the transition to military models; vertical versions can be found in early military models. 　DIALYTAN 4x continued to be manufactured after the war, but in these examples the focusing mechanism was reinstated. The elevation tower initially retained a slanted base, possibly a remnant of wartime components, but later versions reverted to a vertical base only. Needless to say, the distance scale is not engraved.

【民間型　Civilian DIALYTAN 4x－“SS-Dienstglas”】

民間型DIALYTANには、AJACK4x90同様にナチス親衛隊の発注により納品されたものが存在する。AJACKに比べると生産数は極めて少なく、 シリアルナンバー61000番代のものだけが少数確認されている。 　刻印としては、エレベーション部に「SS」とドクロのマークが刻まれている。小銃への搭載はAJACK同様、短レール型マウントによる。 これらの照準眼鏡の製造は、戦前（1939年以前）と考えられる。 　Like the AJACK 4x90, civilian DIALYTAN scopes were also supplied to the Nazi SS under their contract. Compared to AJACK, production numbers were extremely low, with only a small number of units bearing serial numbers in the 61000 range having been confirmed. 　As for the markings, the elevation bears the letters “SS” and a skull mark. Similar to the AJACK, it is mounted on a rifle using a Short side rail mount. Production of these scopes is thought to have taken place before the war (prior to 1939).

【軍用型Military DIALYTAN 4x】

軍用型としては、まずシリアルナンバー65000～66000番代の一群が確認できる。これらは「BNZ Single Craw（単爪型）」と呼ばれる Steyr-Daimler-Puch（コード bnz）製K98k上でのみ見られる一本の大型カギ爪状の固定金具を使用するマウントを利用している。 　これらの照準眼鏡のエレベーション形状は戦前型である。また、照準眼鏡の取り外しの際に支障となるため、対物レンズ側鏡筒の延長部がないのが特徴である。 　As for the military variants, a group bearing serial numbers in the 65000 to 66000 range can be confirmed. These utilise a mount featuring a single large claw-shaped retaining bracket, known as the“BNZ Single Craw”, found exclusively on Steyr-Daimler-Puch (code bnz) K98k rifles. 　The elevation of these scopes is of pre-war design. In addition, this group is characterised by the absence of an extension on the objective tube, which would otherwise impede the removal of the scope. 　ついでみられるのが低型タレットマウントを使用するもので、他のマウント型との混在もあるが、シリアルナンバーでは主として67000～69000番代となっている。 製造年代としては、67761番の照準眼鏡を搭載したMauser Oberndorf（コード byf）製造の1943年製K98kが確認されている。 　続く高型タレットマウントに使用されたDIALYTANは、主として70000～73000番代である。低、高型タレットマウントに搭載されたこれらの照準眼鏡は、 すべて戦時型エレベーションとなっており、戦前型から戦時型への変更は66000番代に行われたと考えられる。 　The next type to be examined employs a Low turret mount. Although mixed with other mount types, their serial numbers primarily fall within the 67000 to 69000 range. As for the year of manufacture, a 1943 made K98k rifle equipped with a scope serial numbered 67761 and manufactured by Mauser Oberndorf (code byf) has been confirmed. 　The DIALYTAN used in the subsequent High turret mounts was primarily in the 70000 to 73000 serial range. All these scopes mounted on the Low and High turret mounts were of the wartime elevation type; the change from the pre-war type to the wartime type is thought to have been made in the 66000 serial range. 高タレット型マウント付きDIALYTAN 4x　70373 DIALYTAN 4x　70373　with High Turret Mount 　シリアルナンバー74000～75000番代においては、再びBNZ単爪型マウントが利用されている。この一群におけるエレベーションはすべて戦時型になっているが、 もう一つ顕著な変更が行われている。対物側鏡筒が本体鏡筒と別部品として分離されている。この構造の変更は、戦後の生産品に至るまで継承されている。 （図３参照） 　For serial numbers in the 74000 to 75000 range, the BNZ single-claw mount is once again utilised. All elevations in this group are of the wartime type, but another significant change has been made. This model features a separate objective lens tube, distinct from the main scope tube. This structural change has been carried forward into post-war production items. (See Fig. 3) 　シリアルナンバー75000番代から長レール型マウントが登場しており、85000番代までのものが確認できる。長レール型マウント用の照準眼鏡には、 固定金具の反動によるズレ防止の円環が付属しているので識別が容易である。（AJACK #51545 参照） 　From serial number 75000 onwards, the Long side rail mount type has been introduced, with examples confirmed up to the 85000 range. Rifle scopes for Long side rail mounts are easily identifiable as they come with a recoil ring for the mounting bracket. (See AJACK #51545) 　このように、軍用型DIALYTANは多種のマウントで使用され、多くの小銃メーカーに供給されており、AJACK4x90と並びドイツ軍用狙撃銃の主要な照準眼鏡として 多用されていた。 　なお、照準眼鏡シリアルナンバーとマウント種別との対応は、明確に線引きできるものではなく実際にはかなり錯綜しているので、ここで上げた対応は あくまで一つの目安として認識いただきたい。 　Thus, the military DIALYTAN was employed with a variety of mounts and supplied to numerous rifle manufacturers, serving alongside the AJACK 4x90 as a primary rifle scope for German military sniper rifles. 　Please note that the correspondence between scope serial numbers and mount types is not clearly delineated and is in fact rather complex. 【戦後型 Post-war DIALYTAN 4x】

当初に述べたとおり、DIALYTANは戦後も製造が行われている。その特徴と軍用型との比較を以下の図３に示す。 なお、戦後においては照準眼鏡のシリアルナンバーが リセットされており、戦前～戦中からの連番になっていない。 　As stated initially, DIALYTAN continued to be manufactured after the war. Its characteristics and comparison with the military model are shown in Figure 3 below. Note that post-war serial numbers for the scopes were reset and did not continue the pre-war to wartime sequential numbering.
