第３回：AJACK 4x90

AJACKは、Berlinに所在した光学機器メーカーA.Jackenkroll Optische Anstalt製照準眼鏡の製品名である。 この会社は1.5倍率から10倍率程度の民間用照準眼鏡を多数製造し、「Ajack Scopes」の名称で海外へも多く輸出していた。 現在では既に同名の会社は存在しないが、少なくとも1960年代頃まで民間用照準眼鏡の製造を継続している。 　4倍率のものは4x42、4x68、4x90の3種存在しているが、この数字は「Lichtstärke」（レンズの明るさ）を示している。 この内、軍用として主に用いられたのが4x90である。 　照準眼鏡の製品名AJACKは、他の倍率も含め当初は「Ajack」と小文字で刻印されていたが、通し番号のシリアルナンバーが 30000を超えるあたりから「AJACK」と大文字表記になっている。 　“AJACK”is the product name for a rifle scope manufactured by A. Jackenkroll Optische Anstalt, an optical instrument manufacturer based in Berlin. This company manufactured a wide range of civilian rifle scopes with magnifications from 1.5x to 10x, exporting many overseas under the brand name “Ajack Scopes”. Although no company of that name currently exists, it continued manufacturing civilian telescopic sights at least until around the 1960s. 　As Ajack scopes, there were three types of 4x magnification: 4x42, 4x68, and 4x90. These figures denote the “Lichtstärke”(lens brightness). Among these, the 4x90 was primarily used for military purposes. 　Product name AJACK was initially engraved in lowercase as “Ajack”, including for other magnifications. However, from around serial number 30,000 onwards, it was engraved in uppercase as “AJACK”.

【民間型　Civilian AJACK 4x90－“SS-Dienstglas”】

軍事転用された民間型AJACK4x90については先に述べたとおりであるが、民間型でありながら軍用のために製造された照準眼鏡が存在する。 それがナチス親衛隊（SS）との契約によって製造されたものである。初期の親衛隊は銃器の供給が不十分であったため、武装親衛隊用に 小銃用の望遠照準眼鏡も独自に入手を図った結果と考えられる。 　照準眼鏡の外観は、焦点調整リングが付属した民間型と同型であるが、刻印が異なっている。エレベーションタワーの左側側面にドクロのマークと 「SS-Dienstglas」（SS制式光学機器）、右側面には「AJACK」と照準眼鏡のシリアルナンバーが刻まれている。SS-Dienstglasのシリアルナンバーは、 36000から41000までのものが確認できる。また、エレベーションディスク上の刻印は１から３までであり、8まで刻まれたものは一般的には見られない。 　The civilian AJACK4x90 adapted for military use is as previously mentioned. However, there were ones manufactured for military purposes despite being a civilian model. Those were manufactured under contract to the Nazi SS. The early SS units, facing inadequate supplies of firearms, are thought to have independently sought to procure telescopic sights for rifles for the Waffen-SS. 　The appearance of the scope is identical to the civilian model, which includes a focus adjustment ring, but the markings differ. The left side of the elevation tower bears a skull emblem and the inscription“SS-Dienstglas”(SS service optical equipment), while the right side is engraved with“AJACK”and the serial number of the scope. Serial numbers for SS-Dienstglas can be confirmed from around 36000 to 41000 range. And the markings on the elevation disc range from 1 to 3, and those engraved up to 8 are not commonly seen.

【軍用型　Military　AJACK 4x90】

軍用型AJACK4x90の外観的な特徴としては、メーカーコードの不使用以外は軍用仕様項目を満たしている。 ただし、初期の生産品には対物側の鏡筒延長がないものなどもある。 　照準眼鏡上の刻印は、エレベーションタワーの片側に 「AJACK 4x90」、反対側にシリアルナンバーとグリース記号「＋」が刻印されている。シリアルナンバーに ついては、SS-Dienstglasの生産後となるナンバー42000以降から53000程度までのものとなっている。 　銃への搭載に使用されたマウントは、SS-Dienstglasでは短レール型マウントであったが、軍用型は低タレット型マウント、高タレット型マウント、長レール型 マウントの順で使用されている。マウント種類とシリアルナンバーとの対応は、混在があるため重複があるが、おおよそ以下のとおりとなる。 　The external characteristics of the military AJACK4x90 meet all military specification requirements, but there are some early models that lacks the extended objective tube. 　The markings on the scope are“AJACK 4x90”on one side of the elevation tower and the serial number and the lubricant marking“+”on the opposite side. The serial numbers range from approximately number 42000 to 53000, which were assigned after the production of SS-Dienstglas. 　For mounting on firearms, the SS-Dienstglas employed short rail mounts, whereas the military variants utilised low turret mounts, high turret mounts, and long rail mounts in that order.
